Break Point - Coaching without Limits!
We’re on a mission to Open Up Tennis – and that starts with diversifying who delivers it.
Break Point removes the barriers that stop people from underrepresented groups becoming coaches – whether that’s cost, time, training, or know-how.
Why is Break Point - Coaching without Limits needed?
Tennis has long struggled with a lack of diversity in its coaching workforce, limiting access, representation, and inclusion at every level of the game. Many talented individuals from underrepresented groups face significant barriers—financial, logistical, and cultural—that prevent them from becoming coaches. Break Point exists to change that. By removing these obstacles, we’re not only creating fairer opportunities but also building a coaching community that better reflects and connects with the people it serves. Diverse coaches mean more relatable role models, more inclusive environments, and a stronger, more welcoming future for tennis.

-
LGBQT+ Coaches
Many LGBTQ+ people face barriers to becoming tennis coaches—fear of discrimination, lack of visible role models, and environments that don’t feel inclusive. This often leads to underrepresentation and missed opportunities.
Break Point aims to change that by creating supportive pathways and ensuring coaching reflects the diversity of the communities we serve.
-
Female Coaches
Women remain underrepresented in tennis coaching. Nationally, only 24% of qualified coaches are women—and the imbalance is even more stark in East Kent, where just 5% of coaches are female.
This gap is driven by barriers such as limited access to training, lack of role models, and outdated perceptions about coaching.Break Point is committed to changing this!
-
Ethnic Diversity
Only 9% of tennis coaches in the UK come from ethnically diverse backgrounds, with even lower representation in areas like East Kent. Barriers such as cost, lack of access, and limited role models make coaching feel out of reach.
Break Point is working to change that by creating inclusive, accessible pathways for aspiring coaches from all ethnic backgrounds.
This story is going viral!
Our Break Point – Coaching Without Limits initiative was recently featured on BBC Radio Kent, shining a light on the urgent need to diversify tennis coaching in East Kent and beyond.
The interview explored how Break Point is breaking down barriers—financial, cultural, and systemic—to open up coaching pathways for women, LGBTQ+ individuals, and people from ethnically diverse backgrounds. It’s a powerful conversation about inclusion, representation, and the future of tennis.
